farmall C low oil pressure

My C has low oil pressure. When it starts it goes about 1/2 way up the original style gauge, but then creeps down.At idle it touches the red but will go up with rpm's but not much as it gets warmer.tryed a different pump same thing, tryed all kinds of oil too.engine sounds fine no noise.

The bottom plate in both oil pumps could be worn, or you need crankshaft bearings. Replace, or sand the plate flat first.

The plate wears or gets warped and doesn't produce as much pressure. It's a common problem. Take the pump apart and check the plate for flatness and wear. The gasket(s) provide the clearance for the rotating part of it.

Have you tried another guage. That guage is 60pluss yrs old and maybe a new one will read better i have found that over the yrs.

The plate bends and the gasket blows out, when you put it back together the clearance is critical. I don't remember but I think it's about .001-.002, it has been discussed on here many times. Jim N. told me about it, saved me a lot of time and money, thanks Jim!

Same problem on my SA. Also had 1/4" of the gasket blown out. My oil pressure was at 10. I had the plate ground flat, new gaskets (I think it took two, which were paper-thin), and the pressure maxes at 30 on my gauge, (with the original gauge, I believe, supposed to read up to 60).

My Super C just cracked the block behind the carb, over the winter. I "thought" I had drained everything beforehand. Can it be welded or the block replaced easily? Please advise. Hank D, NM

Start a new thread on this issue so more will join the discussion. Either can be done. Cracks in that location are common, and usually not fatal. Overlapping steel threaded tapered plugs and grinding flat then paint is usually a very clean approach to a repair. Others have used a mechanical bolted on patch covering the crack (after two small holes are drilled at the very ends of the crack to stop its propagation. Others have cleaned the area for 2 inches on each side and on the ends, then used a thin first layer of JB weld covered by a mesh of fiberglass when uncured, then covered with another thin coat to blend in. I welded mine with nickol rods about 40 years ago & it has not leaked since. It never had anything but anti-freeze in it. Must be a weak spot that cracks for no reason.
