Removing the transmission from the torque tube on Super A

I've been restoring a Super A for 2 years now. I'm now getting into the rear. I have the right side axle off and I dropped it off at my Case IH dealer to have the bearings replaced. I plan on doing the left side next, then the transmission.

My question is, is there anything I need to know about removing the transmission? While I am taking everything off to clean paint and replace bearings I'm going to go ahead an replace the transmission bearings too.

Thanks!

While you have the finals and diff shafts off then it would be time to remove the tranny. When you slide it apart you will see the u-joint with tapered bolts remove themthen the tranny is free. Probably the only bearing that needs replacing is the input bearing on the front along with the seal. I asume you are replacing all seals and then new brake bamds also.

I think it's one of those things that's easier done than said.

Just be real careful about how you block things up and support parts. Especially the engine.

Look at the front axle pin the engine rests on - it's obviously the engine wants to fall to the side once you remove that back wheel. Make sure you block it properly according to the manual.

That sounds like very good advice. I am a firm believer in lots and lots of cribbing, and having 2 separate supports unless there is a bombproof support like those splitting stands that Charlie makes. Going to give this some serious thought because I don't want a surprise when doing something that is potentially dangerous.

I can't tell from the photo, but the front axle needs to be wedged. If you have them in tere, them disregard.
If not, two angled pieces of wood driven in between the axle tube and cast will prevent the tractor from wanting to lean and fall over.
