The reason for a green question on the red forum is because I've had more luck here plus farmall is my favorite anyway.

A broken centering spring in the torque sensing system where the steering wheel shaft enters the first hydraulic components would be where I would start. JD has good online parts diagrams. Jim

If you are going to do that, it would be nice if you mentioned the brand along with the model number. That way people don't have to guess whether it is a Wheel Horse, Belarus, Fendt, Claas, Long or some other brand that doesn't have it's own dedicated forum for such questons.

The question is a rather generic, power steering issue that could apply to several different brands. I think Janicholson pretty much nailed it.

if you need parts for a char lynn torque generating type unit check with a place called Force America they have individual parts for the system and seem to be reasonable price and friendly too. I have dealt with the one in Fort Dodge IA check out catalog page marked 104

I realize that, but you would have been much more clear if you stated it was a JD and what kind of PS system was on the tractor.

To center the steering on a jd 520 you need to take the nose off, slightly loosen the 4 3/8"bolts that attach the valve assembly to the steering box, and tap it forwords or back to center it.It would be much easier if you had an I&T manual.
