12 V Starter Motor

I want to put a 12V Starter on my W4 which currently has a 6V starter.
Will the 12V Starter used on the Farmall 140 be
suitable.
Is there any other IH 12V Starter that will replace my 6V on the W4 and look the same as my 6V starter

Just use it with a 12V battery the starter will be fine. Or have the one you have got converted.

Use the starter you have as is. I've never burned one out yet.

the one you have will work. just don't let it grind and grind, if the motor does not start. usually motor starts quick.

Don't change the starter. It is a series wound DC motor and is just going to spin the engine faster by 30% or so. It will be fine as the others have said. (it also does not care which polarity it is given, it still only turns one way. Jim

One big improvement I made, I ran the battery ground strap directly over TO the starter mount bolt, eliminated all the rusty oily joints and bolted joints going thru the frame. Really spun that old starter.
