Rebuilding a Wisconsin engine VGHD 4

With in these past couple months I have been working on a wisconsin engine that came off my Skid steer loader (I.H). I first have to say finding a machine shop that would do work to it was alot of work but found one called Franks engine rebuilding. They are good and fair priced for the work they do. The same thing with finding the engine parts, gasket that where needed. I thought it was going to coast me more money to do this wisconsin engine because to me the are rare but i have found out know they coast just the same as a regular big engine would to do. Learning alot of things on an air cooled engine since it is my first one that I am doing. Trusting a friend of mine that works on V.W bug engines for advice on rebuild this engine.

I have got one, I single cylinder, that is around 7 horsepower, with only about 10 hours on it. We had three hay balers from John Deere that each had a 25 horse V4 Wisconsin, and as with all Wisconsins, these motors were overbuilt, and expensive in their day. Extremely reliable, except that on the balers, they would run so hot that the spark plug wires would smell from so much heat, and they often were hard to start hot. I'm guessing fuel was boiling in the carb causing vapor lock. I wish I had them, they got taken to the scrap yard before I could intervene!
