Farmall A startup

I am ready to start my newly over-hauled '39 A. What is the best way to make sure nothing is damaged while the oil pressure builds? Is there a way to fill the filter prior to start-up? Thanks in advance.

Here"s what I would do. Pull all of the spark plugs and squirt a couple of shots of oil in each cylinder.. Than, with the ignition off I would turn the engine over a few times until the oil pressure comes up. Put the plugs back in and try to start it. Might puff some blue smoke for a while until the oil burns off.

A squirt oil can can be used with a small rubber hose to fill the oil galleries. Put the hose in the ioil pressure sending unit block threads. Several oil cans of oil might be needed, but it is a nice assurance. Jim

Well if you lubed every thing up real good when you where putting it together the way I do it is leave the plugs out and spin it up till I see pressure. I then put the plugs in and try to fire it up. When I build a new engine I make sure to cover every moving part wit some sort of lube like good oil STP oil treatment etc.

We use to use a pressure vessel filled with engine oil and we would plumb into the oil gallery and let the oil flow until pressure was present on the oil pressure gauge. A Wagner brake bleeder makes a good pressure vessel. I did a Chevy Citation rebuild and I used a 1/2" drill motor to spin the oil pump. Hal
