SH rough idle, randomly dies, lacks power

OK guess I need some new perspective on this as I'm at a loss.

Tractor runs rough at idle, lacks power in 4th/5th gear and randomly dies after its warmed up.

-Fuel tank just got lined and I have verified good fuel flow to the carb.
-I completely disassembled and cleaned the carb and put back together with rebuild kit. Also got new idle metering jet as the old one was broken off and had to be drilled. Choke plate was bent and I straightened that out. Venturi looks like it has been dropped a few times.
-Adjusted the governor per instructions found in the archives.
-Checked for manifold leaks while tractor was running with propane torch, found nothing.
-Valves are adjusted and cylinders have 125-135psi compression.
-Air cleaner is free of obstruction and has new oil to the proper level.
-All new electrical: plugs and wires, points, condenser, coil, rotor, alternator, battery and cables, wiring.

I ran around with carb issues for a while. Not sure if I am still have carb issues or if it is electrical as it only seams to die after it warm. If it is electrical, what do I start checking?

Thanks for the help!!!

A worn distributor shaft will do those things. put a timing light on the coil wire not #1 then shin it at the pulley and look for wild variation in Flash location. if found, the dist. cam bushing may be toast. The loose bearing allows wild timing. and the total effect may be stalling if the points are set even a little close. (best first guess) Coil replacement might be the second. Does it get hot! Jim

Put the timing lite on one wie at a time and watch the flash on each wire and intermitten flash will mean bad dist bushings. Sometimes just one wire will lite all the time thats why you check each wire one at a time. Last SC i worked on #1 would show great fire but 2@3 intermitten rebuild dist solved the problem.

still sounds like carb to me.float setting 1 5/16 knock out ventura and clean out the holes behind it ---take out the power jet screw and use a [torch]tip cleaner to clean out the seat--same with air jet------electrical --I don't see a resister[unless coil is internaly resisted]or 6volt coilwill break down on 12volt system

You are correct, no resistor; internally regulated 12V coil.

I will go through the cab again this week as I brought it with me.

Won't be back out to the farm until next weekend, will put timing light on it then.

If distributor is shot, do you rebuild or buy reman? If rebuild, can I do it myself or do I send it out and where to?

Thanks!!!

If you are a machinist it is just making s shaft and bushing have less than .oo1" fit, and getting the centrifugal weights and springs back in order if needed. Jim
