M brake issue

So last week I was out on my M trying to simulate putting it under load as I was having a carb issue... I used the brakes frequently while operating and there were no problems, both brakes worked well.

A few days later I go to roll the tractor out of my garage (usually start it only outside) and it won't budge, like the brakes are locked... Also squeaks like something is dragging.

I drove it around a while and it got better, but then after parking it seemed to lock up again. It rolls backwards with no problems, but won't budge forwards..?

Pedal play is good. Is the bolt underneath in need of adjustment (backing out)? Lubrication?? Thanks

Might be oil on the lining making a thick paste that grabs the drum. The brakes are far more "servo" acting going forward. (band wraps onto the drum making the brakes self acting) Pull the pan off and take a look. No lube! the adjustment bolt will not tighten itself. Jim

i did the very same thing as you and scrathced my head and got PO in the procces and ended op takking the pans off both sides mutiple times and adjusting til no other but i found out that the shaft that has to lobes on it with the pins that holds the break ban together and which makes it pull together that the welds on the little lobes had both broken and so the lobes would turn whenever or never so it seemed like they where out of adjustment. they where both broke on both sides on my m after working it only a couple times down the drive way! guess the ole M does have some good power! LOL
