Ripped Off!!

Did I get ripped off, or what? I purchased a new Oil Pan Drain Plug for my 706 gasser...it was $24.50 for the plug, and $6.37 for the little copper gasket from the local Case IH Dealer!! What the ??? I finally got old plug loose, but wanted to replace it since I kinda rounded it off!! But $30.87 seems a little extreme for a 1 1/8 inch plug!!! Cmore

If the threads are not damaged in any way, I just do a little grinding on each side and make it one size smaller. Just grinding off the spoiled corners often times will save the plug. Kind of a normal repair when you are in the bussiness.

A friend of mine rounded the corners off his oil plug on his 400 from using a adjustable wrench. He took it to the little tractor shop just outside Eddyville Ky with hope he might have a used one. The old man looked at it weld a nut to it charged my friend $ 3.00 and it works real good just looks odd!

And, the good news is that the farm is 102 miles away...when I go down tomorrow, I know what I have will fit and work!! That's worth a lot..., and it's only money!! Cmore

Cmore,
As far as CIH goes, you really didn't get hosed too bad. Go price a steering wheel for your 706 from FiatNHCIHco. You could probably inframe the engine for about the same amount of money.

That is typical CaseIH, they have almost everything, some of the parts they don't sell many of will be that price. I don't object to their prices because often CaseIH is the only source. However, you can probably go to a farm store and find a plug that fits.

Well if you went to a machine shop with a mill to make the hex and a lathe to turn the threads, how much do you think it would cost?

don't feel bad i needed a 2" o-ring for a header lift cylinder only place that had one that day was the jd dealer so i bought 2 so i would have and extra, in there little individual plastic packages they cost 5 dollars a piece, month later i bought the same size rings from a hyd. shop for 75 cents each sure cost a lot for the fancy jd package that was of no use

Before I got my SMTA I was stricktly a JD man. I thought they were very fold of their old parts, perhaps charging for storage. I found similar situation with IH. Sometimes though I buy a bigger part and I am amazed at how low the price is. Example was a new pressure plate for the SMTA. I think it was around $100 a few years ago. At one time JD pretty much had parts to keep tractors at least running, that seems to be fading away also

They tried to rip me off, they wanted over $600.00 for a clutch kit for a H tractor. Got one the very same parts from nnalert for $240.00. Wont go to the dealership for anything else . rip me once and your done, Kenny.

If you guys think case IH or deere is putting it to you on parts try buying parts from agco!! Yes I think you got dinged on the drain plug.

You should of went to your local Napa Store.

Luckily this will only be a one-time purchase, like most of that stuff. If you're buying things like this repeatedly for the same tractor you're doing something very very wrong.
