runs then quits

I recently purchased a 350 gas with c175 engine. It had been sitting several years.Sediment bowl was completely full of gunk. I removed it from tank, flushed tank, put everything back together, and tried to start tractor for first time in years. It will run for 5 or ten seconds and than shut off like it is starved for fuel.I removed the fitting that feeds carb and the screen filter is clean. I removed brass plug at bottom of carb, and clean gas runs out.I ran it about a minute on ether sprayed in breather hoping it would pick up and run but it won't. Any guesses or thoughts on why it is starving for fuel? TIA

Choke help or hurt?? May well have a clogged up jet in the carb so you get just enough to run for a short time then no fuel to the engine. May need to rebuild the carb since the sediment bowl was bad good chance the carb is also

Drop the carb bowl and give it a THOROUGH cleaning! Can almost guarantee more of the same kind of gunk you removed from the sediment bulb is in bowl and it's blocking the fuel metering jets.

had same trouble with 300 U i bought;float stuck, jets plugged.
If you can, pull the tank and clean it. all that crap is coming from the tank and will continue to do so until all gone --into your carb
maybe add inline filter

In line fuel filters about 99% of the time cause more trouble then they are worth I know I have thrown so many of them away on tractors because of that and lot count of the payments I have received for fixing that problem for people
