I am going to rebuild the carb on the 300 and I was over in the Tractor Parts section here on YT and it had two kits to choose from. How do I know which one to get? Also what is the color of the carb supposed to be? Mostly I see red with a few being black. Thanks in advance guys!!

Your carburetor had a black oxide finish (not paint) before it was installed on the tractor. It then got painted red along with the rest of the tractor.

There really is no perfect choice on the carb kit, because there is NO kit specifically for the 300. What all does your carb need? If all you are goinf to do is clean it up, install a new float valve and seat and make the adjustments, then you really don't need either one of those kits. All you need is a gasket set with a float valve and seat. About $10 or less.

The want to rebuild the carb because when the tractor is cruising along in like 4th gear at half throttle and isn't working hard it has a miss but if you crack the throttle open it doesn't miss a beat. I put all new plugs, wires, cap on it last spring. Plus the carb hasn't been rebuilt or cleaned in 30+ years so I thought it would be a good idea. And it has a leak sometimes too. I'm also gonna put rear axle seals in it. What type of lube do I need in the rear end. I was thinking 80w 90.

It sure won't hurt to rebuild that carb., but I don't think that will solve the intermittent miss. I'm more inclined to think there is some wear in the distributor that is causing that miss, or, maybe you need to adjust the clearance on the valves?
