Super C Charging System

Hello, I have a Super C and the ammeter is indicating no charge. I have a voltage regulator and generator all 6 volt with new battery. Are there some basic tests I can perform to verify if the generator and voltage regulator are working? Thanks in advance and appreciate this forum

Simple test ground the field if that makes it charge the reg is bad if it doesent charge the gen is bad this will work if ALL componets have a ground. If you have a volt meter check the voltage at the batt term on the reg should read batt volts. When the motor is running it should read 7.2 or so. Using OHM meter ALL componets tshould have ground to the battery. Does the ammeter show discharge with the lite on meter can also be bad.

Well that is quick and easy and I have a volt/ohm meter, just not schooled at all on these generators and regulators. The ammeter is showing a discharge and was previously showing charge. I am not sure what you mean about a lite, there is no lite on the ammeter. I will also check components for a good ground. Unfortunately I had to take the gas tank off this afternoon to boil it out...that will slow me down some.

Gene is very knowledgeable on the Farmall A and B.

He asks you to verify if the ammmeter shows discharge when the tractor's lights are switched on while the engine is off. If not, the ammeter can be bad, or not hooked up correctly.

I recommend to use John T's trouble shooting scheme as posted by janicholson.

I meant turning on the lites to see if the meter showed discharge. Mite have a stuck or bad ameter. Since the gas tank is off why not take the gen and reg to a shop for a quick check.

I have a little over 6v at the batt terminal. Also, good grnd from the battery terminal to both reg and gen. I will boil out tank this weekend and make other checks. Thanks to all
