Farmall H rotary mower?

I just recently inherited my grandfathers "51 Farmall H which he was
the original owner of. My question is, if i put a 3 point hitch on, live
PTO kit, would i be able to run a 6ft rotary mower on it? I know that
in order to run any type of mower, i will need to get an overrun
coupler for it.

On my uncles farm, I used his H with a 6ft. Woods trailing mower to mow our airplane landing strip all the time, handled it fine in 4th gear. I'm sure in high/heavy grass you'll probably have to drop a gear or two.

(quoted from post at 21:19:34 04/23/13) So would the live pto kit be able to live a 3 point hitch style rotary mower?
Where do you get a live PTO kit for an H? If you have live PTO, you don't need an overrun adaptor. You would be able to clutch and stop the ground travel without shutting off the PTO or risk the mower momentem "push" you through a fence or into a ditch.
Live Hydraulics you can add to an H and that would be a help for lifting the 3 point.

Excuse me I meant live hydraulics. My mistake. Just wanting to know if:
1) will the 3 point with live hydraulics be able to lift a 6 ft rotary mower

2) will the engine be powerful enough to turn the PTO powering the mower?

Sorry I meant live hydraulics.
I'm just trying to figure out if
1) with 3 point hitch and live hydraulics, can they lift a 6 ft
rotary mower?
2) is the H strong enough to turn the mower fast enough to
mow?

Yes and yes.Your H has plenty of power.Try the nonlive hydralics before you spend hundreds of dollars on a live pump setup. You may find that the old 'belly'pump is quite adequet.

I always run an over-run coupler, they"re only $50 or so. I would not do without a 3-point, it is the handiest thing. The H will handle a 5" mower easily. I do recommend you set the rear end of the Hog up in the air on the rear wheel, for two reasons; first, the cuttings can shoot out the back easy, second the H only has to lift the front end of the mower, lots less wear and tear on the Lift-All pump.

Don't know what the ground is like where you plan to use. Going up some sloops you will want the mower lowered to the ground on a H unless its a lite made one of some kind. Some heavy duty 3 point ones will make a H lite on the front on the level.

If you're just cutting lawn-type grass, an H will run a 6-foot mower. If you're actually cutting something tough, use a 5-foot mower...an H will handle that just fine [unless it's REALLY sick].

And just in case you were asking it that way, YES, an H will be able to run BOTH a PTO-driven mower AND live hydraulics at the same time.

Just not in 5th gear.

The 2-cylinder Saginaw 3pt hitch will lift a lot with just the belly pump hydraulics. In fact I recall seeing a picture on this forum of someone lifting an entire C or H with one of these setups. C's start out around 3000lbs, and a 6' rotary mower doesn't weigh anywhere near that much.

No.It is not a simple matter ot "just install a pump".In some tractors you need to change timeing gears, maybe the timeing cover. And there are other parts that need to be adressed as well.I have an H with a belly pump and 3 point. Its quite adequet for every thing its done. You simply learn the way to run it.Simply pull the handle before you stop on the end.Its a matter of 'timing'.. 'Live hydralics is handy. But lack of is not an issue/not a "deal killer".Try before you spend big bucks.

Belly pump hydraulics are plenty to raise the 3 point.

An H will not run a 6 foot mower in heavy cover.

Dont know.But more than an 8n Ford.And these can lift a 6'mower with ease.I have picked a mower,a 3 point grain drill,a sprayer,a blade with 500 lbs hung on it.....I dont think an H will have a problem with a 6' mower.

I have run a 6 ft mower thru some pretty tough stuff on my H. And I don"t have live hydraulics. The belly pump. with a saginaw 3 pt, will pick up the entire back of the tractor.

I run a 6 foot finishing mower with my H farmall.
The H will handle that mower in 12" of grass 1st-4th gear with no problem on power.
On my finish mower I hooked up two drag links off of the drawbar. I am not able to lift the mower but I never leave the yard.

The 1951 H would have the later model cam drive and should work fine with the live pump from a 300 or an aftermarket pump.

I wondered if you might have meant live hydraulics. As for power, I think an H should run a 6' mower in most stuff, maybe not real heavy. And yes, you will need an overrunning adaptor on a [u:66622d67c8]non-live[/u:66622d67c8] PTO.
