Farmall H frame rails

I was looking on the Case IH parts lookup and found that they give 2 different part numbers for the side rails and the front engine mounts for an H. There is a serial number break at about 96,xxx. I need a set as mine are wobbled out really bad and will later style rails and mounts work on my early serial number tractor which is 58,121. I don't know what could be different between the two and would like to know before I buy a set that won't work for me. Thank you Brad

The only things I can think of are the front engine mounts changed sometime during production. IIRC, early ones were kind of a rubber torsion mount and later ones were a cast block. If the bolt patterns for the mounts were different the frame rails would be different. Perhaps later rails may have been pre-drilled for the wide front end and the earlier ones may not have. Or perhaps a hole pattern was changed for an implement mount or something.

Best guess, the motor mounts changing demanded the rail change.

The bolt holes in the frame are spaced father apart on the later frames. You can use the later frames on the earlier tractors by also replacing the rubber motor mount with the cast block the later ones used.

I replaced the frames on our '40 H many years ago because the original mounts had failed and the cranking coupler would no longer slip on to the end of the crankshaft.
