MD vs 400 D cylinder head

someone brought me a cylinder off an md to o/h.he brought the head gasket as well,after looking at it I can see that the fire ring falls inside of the combustion chamber of the starting valve so it isn"t sealing.the casting #"s have been ground off(I hate when shops do this)my question is, are the starting valves located in a different position in different heads, making it so a 400 450 head wont work on an M.

its the same engine so i cant see the head being different. but i cannot visually verify this right now as i dont have them both to look at.
would have to check with case ih on the two head gaskets.

there are different head gaskets for each engine and different ones for the 3 7/8 and 4 inch bore in the M.I am trying to find a head from an M that I can look at but was hoping someone has run into this problem before.ep
