1586 volt gauge

My 1586 voltage gauge pegged out today. This is the first time we"ve run the tractor since we got a different one from a salvage yard. The old one would work off and on -- the new one just pegged out to the high side whereas the old one was always dead to the low side. My alternator was running 14.8v - so a touch high but not that bad. Did I get another bad gauge, or are they just that troublesome?

I think you got a bad one. The one on my 205 shows about 15 volts when I turn the switch on and pegs the needle when running. Need to replace it. I have volt meters on most of my equipment and prefer them to amp meters.
