International Harvester 284

I recently bought an International Harvester 284, SN 2020001J0116610*. The Valve covers have a sticker with M4-71G on them.

I am looking for a set of Pushrods and a head gasket for it, however I am running into problems finding parts. Anyone know a place to get parts for such an old tractor or a motor that the parts will cross with? I was told the motor is the same as a 1971 Mazda 1200 but I am not sure this is correct.

All my books show that the gas motor is indeed a Mazda, but I know nothing else.

This Nebraska test link also confirms Mazda as engine manufacturer and will give you a few more engine spec clues. (look under the engine section for bore, stroke, displacement, etc.)

Good Luck on your parts search. I am assuming nothing was available through CIH?

The following is not my info, it was gleaned from prior posts. I do not know the model number or model name of the car. Jim
Yes it is a Mazda gas engine and they even came in cars. But that was in the 69-72 era and most were sold in Japan and Europe. Not many left around. Friend of mine is stationed in Japan. He checked with local mechanics and could find nothing. Remember the Japanese came up with the idea of planned obsolescence during WWII.

Justed worked on one for a friend back in the winter. We got some parts from CIH but they are EXPENSIVE!!! Could not find an aftermarket supplier for anything. They had the head gasket and a few others but not everything is available.
