Need paint and manual advice for my new BN

I just got my new BN(new to me), and it needs brake work. Which manual should I buy for it? YT sells a reprint of a service manual and the IT version.
Second, I usually paint with PPG DCC single stage urethane. Does any body have a PPG paint code for the Correct Color?

I have a '47 BN. Local IH/Case dealer had reprints of the original service manual and owners manual. Got them both. 20.00 bucks each when I got them... now? dunno know. Between the two, you should get all the info you need to work on your BN. No idea on the paint codes since I don't paint 'em... I just use 'em.

The IH service guide should be more complete than the I&T, but keep in mind that neither manual is going to be a step-by-step "cookbook" for working on the tractor. There will be a lot of, "remove *blah*" without telling you exactly how, or what else you need to remove to get there. It was 1947 and the manual was intended for career tractor mechanics with mechanical aptitude and good "fig'r'n out" skills.

Heck, lots of farmers took these tractors apart and put them together with no manuals at all. They just kept taking bolts out until something fell off. If it wasn't the thing that needed fixin', they kept taking bolts out until the right thing fell off.

Brad,
Pre 1949 IH used IH50 paint. I have been using PPG 70019 as a replacement. There is a lot of information on this in the Paint and Bodywork forum on this site.

(quoted from post at 06:15:24 04/12/13) Go to B inder Books for your manuals. The Jensales manuals are garbage.

I should add that this sites manuals are JenSales manuals.

JenSales manuals are photo-copies of the original IH manuals. Maybe not done as well as they could be, but the information is all in there. If you want a manual you can take to the shop and not worry about greasy finger prints and smudges, they fill the bill just fine.

Original manuals come up from time to time on fleabay, but some are a bit pricey. I went the binder books route until I found an affordable original manual. The main difference is the original manuals have much clearer pictures than the reprints, but the written information is identical. For the price difference & to get started a reprint will serve you well, then you will have time to look for an original.
Many tractor shows have vendors selling manuals, and I have even spotted some at the larger flea markets (Canton here in Texas), so keep an eye on the on-line sources for originals.

Yeah, I just need one to get started with. I know I need to do the brakes on my new BN, and I know it's not the typical drum/shoe set up. What acts as the drum? Can you turn it down? Is it an insert in the axle housing? Is it removeable? Is there a replacement if needed? I don't know what it looks like. A pic on the web I found only shows the band, but not the surface it drives against.

I know, I own both. If I were to spend my hard earned money I would buy Binder Books rather than JenSales. Also the Binder Books manuals are neat because they look like the originals. I'm not into hot pink.
