i am in the final stages of a restore of a 48 cub with cultivator i applied my vinyl cut decals on last nite and the left hand side got wind caught and is on a downward angle . do i have to strip the hood down and repaint or scrap off the old ones and reapply new ones . any ideas . thanks

I've had vinyl decals applied to a boat and to a truck. Just peeled them off. You shouldn't have any trouble peeling it off, just use your finger nail to catch a spot and slowly lift it off. Expecially if you just put them on. If there is any goo left behind, go to wal mart and pick up some sticker remover. I used one that is citrus based and it cleaned everything up nice and didn't harm the paint.

Borrow your wife's hairdryer. Apply a little heat to those decals and you should be able to straighten them out, or at least remove them with no damage to the paint.

I have no experience with the vinyl decals, but with the mylar type, spraying the surface with Windex will let you move those decals around and achieve the correct position BEFORE they are permanently attached.

If you have a body shop supply place around you can get a stripe eraser. It is just a big round rubber eraser that goes in a drill for remving stripes and stuff and it doesn't hurt the paint.

If you didn't wait for the paint to cure completely (30 days in 50+ degree weather for CaseIH 2150) before putting on the decals, you may be stuck repainting the hood. It will still be soft, and may peel away with the decals no matter how careful you are.

Don't go using one of those eraser things on new paint! Guaranteed you'll be doing a repaint.

Don't use a heat gun to soften the decals either. That'll definitely cause fresh paint to bubble up. Hair dryer should be ok.

No matter what you do it's going to be risky.

Catalyzed automotive paints should be nice and hard within a few hours so you'll have better luck.

Next time you go to apply the decal, spray some soapy water on the hood before positioning the decal. This will allow you to "float" it into place without it sticking down permanently. Then carefully squegee the water out from under the decal and let it dry.

I agree with that, I was assuming the paint was cured, but I should have stated that when I suggested the eraser.
