Super M Mainshaft oil seal

I have liftall out, both couplings removed from lift all and countershaft.Piece of keystock welded on socket worked great. Can transmission driving shaft oil seal be removed without splitting tractor? Is there enough room to remove bolt and coupling after removing connector between clutch shaft and transmission driving shaft? Any tips appreciated.

Want to caution you real quick, that if the "M" resemelbes the "H" and has four taper bolts holding a spider-coupling together, they"re very pricey, as I remember $45 each or something. I had hard time getting them out, and thought of just cutting them out, but patience will get "er done. other thing, the Woodruff key holding the coupling to the shaft might be deformed, and hard to get out. That is IF the "M" design resemelbes the "H".

If the clutch pressure plate has three holes on the area near the fingers, use three of the PP bolts in those holes to compress the Tension on the plate. This allows the clutch shaft to be removed more easily. (not easy, just more easily)
The connection bolts mentioned are a bit of a pain, but the spider (cross) connector must be carefully put back the way it is. It can be reversed and it will look correct but not allow the pilot snout to engage the crank pilot bearing. Once the shaft is out it is easy to do the seal. (don't pull the input shaft out, bearings may fall into the case and require much physical training to replace.) Jim

You are saying that the clutch shaft must come out in order to get the seal retainer off. Correct? Not enough room with it in place and just the spider out?

To easily (?) remove the tapered coupling bolts, secure the coupling half you are working on and use a long handled wrench to turn the bolt head (after removing the nut); with a goodly amount of effort the bolt will SNAP loose. Makes no difference which way the bolt is rotated.
Prybar, hammer, heat, etc. are not very effective on a tapered bolt in that confined area.
Experience is a great teacher!! My sons & I have done this many times on our
Farmall collection.
