If it is stand alone (not shared accessories or attachments with more modern tractors)Straight 20 wt non detergent oil works. If shared, use the other tractors fluid. Hytran or JD oil is a superior oil, but it is thinner and may not provide as much pressure/volume as the heavier oil. Jim

hydraulic oil would be the oil of choice if this is the only tractor your using on the implements.

I agree with the others. Standard hydraulic oil is best. however, originally, these systems called for SAE 20, non-detergent oil.

You can make your decision from there.

Any hydraulic fluid will be fine, the main thing about the stuff is non foaming additives, even car automatic transmission fluid is usable, IH Hytran & JD Hydraulic fluid are basically close/same. This is the H/M first design & foaming was big concern, that's why non detergent was specified.

The correct police will surely get you guys. Come on now. The H manual calls for an SAE 30w. Actually any oil that flows at riooom temperature will work.

auto trans oil does not have the same lubing properties as hyd. oil. proved that at work. was running auto trans in the power units with 4 ,danfoss piston pumps and pumps were showing more wear on inspection and o/h's.

Wont argue a bit, but we are not working on a 2010 year H or M. I said it would work in their particular need right now. I had a shop foreman in a IH shop for 37 years I worked with, he always said wasn't the type of oil that caused problems, it was the lack of oil.
