Replacing oil bath air cleaner media

Doing the finishing touches on the 400D before I put it to work. Got to the air cleaner and the bottom of the filtering media was absolutely filthy and nearly clogged.

Someone has had it apart before as the retainer and bottom lip were dinged and tweaked so I took it apart myself to clean out the whole thing. The element on this one looks like window screen wrapped in cylinder and almost looks like a farmer fix except that it looks like it was run through a crimper. The last one I looked at on an M looked more like steel wool. One area on the top of the filter is rusty to the point of crumbling so I'd like to replace the element.

Has anyone used the material they sell here on YT or found some other way to satisfactorily replace the filtering media?

I haven't used the material from here but if it is anything like the other products,it will work just fine. I too removed mine to clean, mine was good though.

You might find another one in better condition to use,but I was told (from someone on here)to REALLY,fully clean one of these filters it needs to come apart. It means cutting the spots holding it together and pulling the innards out to get ALL of the crud out of it.

It's all apart. A previous owner somewhere back there had popped the welds. I just had to wiggle the bottom retainer off and pull the media out. Will check it out more today.

The Donaldson oil bath air cleaners that I have had apart were pleated window screen installed in layers. It was actually difficult to get them all back in after cleaning.
