Looking at a 706G

Hey guys, I am looking at a 706G with a loader for general loading of equipment, moving material and probably taking on the bushogging on the property.

It had a cab at one point. Now it has flat top fenders. It has a WFE. It has a fast hitch with 3 point adapters. The loader looks factory built, but the mounting points on the tractor are fabbed up. It has 5400 hours.

Could you guys please go over what I need to look for when inspecting this tractor?

Thanks,

Big Matt

You guys crack me up , THEY USE A LOT OF GAS . Yes they USE GAS so does your pick up i have run 706 gasser probably longer then any of you . NO they are not a V W BUG and NO they do not get 41 MPG . Yes they will suck a full tank of gas in a full day of pulling 4x16's 8-10 inches deep . I can Mow rake twice 28 acres plus move all the bales on one tank of gas on some of the nastiest ground you will ever want to put a tractor on on hills that work the snoot out of it pulling a 9 foot haybine . IF you keep them in tune and use the gas that will run in it they do well. Put the 706 in the field with the 806 and pulling the same plow in the same gear the 706 will be on the heals of the 806 DIESEL all day long and GUESS WHAT they both need a FULL tank of fuel at the end of the day the 806 has a BIGGER TANK ALSO. Oh but i do not want to spend the extra money on the 93 octane gas . well for use that EXTRA .20 cents a gallon amounts to around 80 bucks more for gas each year . The cost of replacing a piston due to piston melt down from tryen to save that 80 bucks is around 350 bucks just for the parts and that is IF you can save the sleeve . We make a little over 400 acres of hay each year and our 706 mows 95 percent of it rakes 90% of it . when winter sets in the 706 does all the winter work and the diesels are put to bed . IN other words we go thru about 500 gallon of gas each year and around 800 in diesel for three diesels . They are a good tractor and if you are not going to use it for heavy work all the time they really are not bad on fuel . Also i can not say all the gas goes into the 706 as OH the 4 wheeler needs gas so off to the tank , oh the old J D A needs gas OFF to the tank. we need to clean parts in the field OFF to the tank for a couple gallon . then you add in evaporation and god only knows how much we loose to that each year. One thing about then if you keep it tuned up and a good battery in them they will start even down to 35 below with 30 weight oil in them , they may not like it but neither did i when it was that cold.

I have a C291 that I run from an auxiliary fuel tank for testing. Any way under light load and around 1300 RPM fuel consumption is 1 1/4 US gallons and hour. Fuel consumption goes up from there depending on load. Let the beatings begin.

Sorry I opened my mouth.Nieghbor must have had a bad one. He pulled a 4/16. We had a 4/14. He burned alot more fuel. They wood be great for winter, if you don't mind fighting the gear shift. But then I probably have the only one that shifts hard.

Well the only reason you have to fight the gearshift is because everything is out of adjustment . Ya want to see how they are suppose to shift then park your donkey on any of the ones i work on . They will shift with two fingers , no yanking jerking . Just push the clutch down and shift .
