Just got a W400D. Cannot find any decent pictures, as this
thing looks kinda odd, has no normall rear hitch, has a big steel
plate on the back with a pindle hitch, the front looks like picture
I have seen, under all the big heavy steel plate, there is rear
PTO and the rear fenders have been trimmed and a seat off a C,
but has been cut and modified, just curious as to what this is,
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Ive got a W400D too. Looks like youre short about a foot on the back of your fenders. Drawbar is a little heavier version of the Farmall u shaped one.
No torque?, or am I just not seeing it. Seat looks like the original. Other than the fenders, nice looking tractor.

I see a pto lever, too. I would bet the pto is still on the tractor under all that steel. What we see is a nice looking industrial style pintle hitch added to a nicer looking farm tractor. Now we need to ask if it"s built correctly for pulling if you wish to keep it this way and then if it"s easily reversible to stock if you choose.

someone has just remodeled the back end and installed a pintle hitch what a shame to destroy a low production tractor.

I would love to see the back of a W400D that is correct, as I would like to make it correct. I know the fenders are going to stay as they are, for now. I looked behind the plate, the PTO is under there, but do not see a hitch of any sort. This is a differant animal for me, as all I have dealt with is the letter series, rowcrops. I really appreciate any and all feedback and help.

Where you see bad welding, cut.

The tractor does use the same seat frame as a Super C.

Hard part will be finding the swinging drawbar.

This is a toy, but it gives you the basic idea:

Were they like the 9s where they had the big fancy swinging drawbar like that and a regular hoop swinger?

The 9's had a significantly heavier drawbar. The drawbar on the W400 has a modest angle iron forming the bottom part of the swinging drawbar. They will bend under a heavy load. All said, they have their issues, but its still my favorite tractor. Ill try & post a pic later.

Nice W400. I used to have one but it needed lots of work. Sold it to a guy thinking it went to a better place. Never seen a hitch like that before.

They do have serial # listing for a IW400 and a IW450 so the one pictured could be a industrial model. Might have to see if I have microfiche on a IW model.

double check your serial number make sure it doesn't say IW. I was at a where someone put a forklift attachment on a W450.

the odd thing, the only thing on the serial number plate is the s/n, 3701, and a couple letters that I cannot recall what they are, sorry, the rest of the numbers are gone, just a bare aluminum tag, Am still puzzled as to what we got.
Thanks for all the input
Jim

The s/n tag says 3701, there is also a D in upper right hand corner of tag and an S about a half inch after the s/n.
