IH 574 PTO won't turn off

Hello all I am in need of some help on my IH 574 the PTO would not turn off but would run without problems till a few weeks ago I was brush hogging and it began to slip. So I thought the not turning off was due to bad clutches. I replaced the clutches fluid and filter. PTO still won't stop when shut off. I have checked adjustment and it seems correct. I was hoping someone could confirm the need for the PTO valve in the MCV to be replaced before I just spent the money.
 
Hi Yates, on the 74 series tractors, I always recommend that before replacing clutches, check the operation of the PTO, lever and mechanism, soak it down with your favourite penetrating oil. The other thing to check is that no junk, twigs etc haven't fallen down in behind the PTO lever.

Jimb thanks for the reply. I have checked all adjustments clear the debris lubed the lever and have replaced the PTO clutches, also the hydraulic oil and filter. Still no luck the PTO will not shut off while the engine is running. I guess the PTO valve in the MCV is next ??
 
Sounds like clutch pack has slipped and welded up ???

Easy check, go to MCV (where filter is) and at the rear of the MCV there is a small pipe that goes from the MCV rearwards into the tranny casing, this is the pto oil supply. Remove the pipe from the MCV and put a cap on the MCV fitting.

If pto stops it is an oil supply issue and the ipto spool and linkage in MCV need adjusting.

If it continues rotating, the clutch pack has welded up and needs an overhaul!!

Shop time to test and overhaul is around 2 1/2 hours!!

Do you have a service manual???
 
The clutches have been replaced. I did this prior to the forum upload and the clutches have not had anything on them. This is a good check and will for sure do it when I get back to the tractor. I have one of those I&T manuals and It seems to be efficient. Thanks for the reply
