Hi a friend has sent me a picture of an IH 600 Deisel. I"ve never seen one of these tractors. It looks like an updated version of the WD6 or WD9. So can some one out there tell me about it. Mike

Yes, I think it was made only in 1956 for part of the year before the 650 came out. The lineage is WD-9, Super WD-9, 600 and then 650. I don't think there were many differences between the 600 and 650, maybe just some chrome trim and paint color. The 650 had white on the grill and the sides of the hood. For that matter, the Super WD-9 was about the same design other than no power steering. The WD-9 had a 335 CI motor while the later models had 350 CI motors. The 350 was the largest 4 cylinder motor IHC made before going on to the 6 cylinders. I'm sure there will be others to come along to chime in with more information. That series is one of my favorites.

Yes, descended from the W-9 series tractors.

If you look past the paint and chrome emblems, notice that IH didn't even bother to change the styling of the sheet metal from the W-9.

Frankly I think that even in 1956, IH knew the days of the big wheatland tractor were numbered. They just kept enough of them around to keep their old-school customers happy until they either died off or could be convinced that a big row crop could do the same job just as well.

You don't see companies doing that very much these days... If the sales numbers for a particular model of something drop below a certain level, they drop it even though it may pi$$ off a few long-time loyal customers.

it descends from the wd9,then swd9.it was the 660 that replaced the 650 which came after the 600. row crops were not convincing here in Canada. it is standard tractor country.

The only other major difference between the 600 and 650 that I am aware of is that the 650 has full coverage rear fenders. The 600 has fenders like a W9. My 650-D has power steering but I think that was also available on the 600 too. Al

Not trying to be a know-it-all, but IH made a 4 cyl. 460.7 cu. in. engine in diesel versions for the WD-40 tractor and TD-14 crawler and a gas version for the T-14 crawler.

As well as 4 5/8" rebuild kits for the D350s.

If the 600 needs a home I could find room.
