140 front trans seal

My dad has a 140 that the front trans seal is leaking pretty bad on. I have never really worked on one of these before. Can the tractor be split between the trans and bell housing or is there some reason it would have to be split between the motor and bell housing first?

I completely disassembled my Super A about 3 years ago. I first split at the engine, then removed the torque tube. I don't remember if you can disconnect the drive shaft at the transmission with the torque tube on. Replacing the trans seal is easier with the torque tube off. It is not hard to remove. If someone says they did it with the tube on, I won't disagree.

You can split it at the transmission. Be sure to wedge the front axle so that it can't tip over. You need to drive in wooden wedge from each side between the axle and the steering casting or it wil rollover since it is offset. Plan on sleeving the the tranmission input coupler. I bet there is a serious groove worn in it. I have one apart now for the same problem, plus others.

I split the As and Bs there but i do have stands with wheels to make it easy. You dont need to move it very faar to unhook the driveshaft.
