IH 574 gas overheating

Hello, wondering if you guys can give me some ideas on where to go next. I have an IH 574 gas, I bought it about 12 years. Right after I bought it, the radiator blew. Radiators for gas 574"s were no longer available, so they put in a radiator for a diesel 574. This required jerry rigging the bottom radiator hose, and installing a hose barb coupler for the bottom hose, which worked fine for over a decade. last summer it started to leak, so we pulled it apart and the plastic had got so hot it deformed. We rebuilt the hose and replaced the fitting with brass, turned the engine on, and coolant poured out the weep hole on the radiator cap. So we replaced the thermostat, but got same result. Figured it might be water pump, but I just took that apart and it turns on fan pulley, and it wasn"t leaking. Is there some other way that pump could fail? Are we barking up the wrong tree? Any other ideas on what could be going on? Do we need to get IH gaskets to put the pump back together or can we scrape off teh cardboard and just use gasket maker?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Several possible realities (you choose)
Over filling the radiator. It needs to be about 1/2 the way from the cores to the neck when filled. If filled to the neck it will expand as it warms and run out of the overflow. This gives the impression that the system is broken.

It does have an issue (possibly a cracked head or head gasket) compression check and combustion gasses in the radiator check (Kit from NAPA) if it blows coolant.

Assure the coolant is circulating when the tractor is running with the proper coolant level.
Look into the radiator and feel the coolant temp to assure it is circulating. Using a infared temp gun is easiest.

The gasket should be replaced. it keeps the spacing correct on the impeller. Making one is OK if the correct thickness is purchased. Careful tapping with a pall peen hammer wil cut a new gasket (hold the paper steady) Jim
