Don't know much about these bigger tractors, but neighbor has a 1206 with a Westndorf loader and it seems to run good. Starts with a shot of ether and seems to run good. Where these hard starting? Wants 7,900 firm. Anything I should look for? Any info would be appreciated Thanks

One of the best of the era. A block heater is a good idea. Ether (whif not massive dose) is pretty normal, but not required. Great tractor. Jim

Should not ether over 45-50 degs.
have had several 06 and 56 series tractors over the past years and if thoes motors are in good shape they will start very easy. I have had two of thoes 361 motors and one 407 that would start at 30 degs easy without any help.

A 1206 will start down below freezing with out EITHER IF she is in good shape . Either is the worst thing you can do to a diesel , you can cause rings to break and once that has happened you will need to feed her each time you go to use it . So i would say that she is getting tired . The DT 361 is NOT and engine for a novice to rebuild just like a D 361 . Each and everything must be correct to make her a good cold starten tractor. . Now as for the price i do not think he is out of line on it with the loader as the loader is worth two grand by it's self . BUT by the time you fix it you will have over twelve grand in it or more .

I would buy it and run it as is.
It is the best looking red tractor I have ever seen, so it should be worth that!

I'm not sure why IH decided to make their tractors uglier with the 26 and 56 series then.

I do like the black stripe models too, but the 1206 was nice as is.

Westendorf loader if WL40 is worth 2K if WL42 3K plus. Makes it cheap at 5K .I have had several[even a new one] and they need to be plugged in under 40deg. or a shot of either. In my opionion it would not be much of loader tractor unless seldom used but there is nothing like a redone 1206 to turn heads. They will outsell a 56/66/and 86 to right person.I usually stay under 10K for nice ones depending on tires and condition.I just sold a completely redone one for over 20K and kinda wish it was still here as I shouldnt have priced it if I didnt want to sell it so now I am looking but that is just as much fun as one sitting in the shed.

Dad's 1206 has over 9000 hours and needs a bump of either when it's below about 45 degrees. It needed either 20 years ago when it had 4500 hours on it, and it will need either 20 years from now.

Never let some bonehead try to pound the sleeves in with a sledgehammer or hone the block to make the sleeves a lighter press fit when overhauling one. Guaranteed destruction inside of 100 hours.

You'd look long and hard to find a "beater" 1206 with usable rubber and without a loader around here for $8000.
