H Alternator Pic

I had pics of how my H was wired before I tore it down for repairs, paint, etc. My hard-drive crashed and I lost the pics, though. All I can find is that there was a wire from the BAT terminal on the alt. to the - post on the ammeter, and all the other wires connected to the ammeter were on the + post. Is that even right? The alt was tested, and works fine. The tractor always started easily and ran fine with it"s old battery. Any tips for the proper way to wire this old alt are appreciated.

It is not correct.
Wired like that it would only show current coming from the alt into the system, never any discharge when running, not actual system information. Optomistic but lacking driver usable info.

Assuming the meter did read charging when operating, the Amp gauge positive post should have only one wire attached, it shaould be #10 wire and go to the starter switch stud coming from the battery. the alt and all other wires to the lights and ignition (assumes it is point and coil, not a mag) will connect with the #10 wire coming from the alternator. This allows you to see battary charge discharge status. Jim

That regulator looks old to me but new to me.
Who makes regulators like that for old external regulated delcotrons?

I do not know. I have seen similar units as replacement for external regulators, but they mounted on the fender not the back of the alt. Jim

Bosch had an external regulator mid late 60's at first glance I thought that is what it was. Thanks.

I have seen that regulator advertised for that model alternator but do not remember where it was.

It has a distributor, not a magneto. The ammeter was smashed when I bought the tractor, but it always started easily, and I was planning on replacing the ammeter anyway, so I never thought about whether or not it was wired correctly. So the wire from the BAT terminal on the alt goes to the - post on the ammeter?

Don"t know anyhting about electricity, but that turnbuckle to adjust tension is one GREAT idea!
