international wont fire

I have a older international harvestor. The year is unknown. I believe its a 2444 model. Gas engine. It started sputtering and backfiring the other day and acted as if it ran out of gas. I refueled and it won't fire. I checked the coil and have spark there. But am showing no spark to my plugs. THe distributor looks good, turns when the engine cracks, no burn or wear marks on it. Ideas????

Sounds like a bad rotor or bad cap that is cracked and wet weather has it shorting to ground. Pull the cap and spray it with starting fluid and let dry or blow dry and look for lines in the cap. If you see lines those lines are in fact cracks and those are enough to cause you that problem

Point gap at .020" when the cam is pushing it open as far as it can. Rotors also go bad. Old covered the cap. Jim

I have had the spring on the points break and the tractor just quit on me. Might be something to check. Although since it was coughing and sputtering first that doesn't sound like the problem.

If you work through my Troubleshooting Procedure it can help diagnose the cause of non firing......Post any questions

Does it have one of them porcelain resistor on it. It could be bad. Was fighting my w-4 thinking it was the coil and turned out to be the resistor.
