I am working on A 1939 farmall f20 it has been sitting over 30 years and the clutch is frozen up. I am attempting to remove the cover i have all the bolts out on the outer circle and have removed the drive coupling & inner cover. Then I took the large nut off of output shaft now for my problem the cover will not come off seems like it is in a bind with the bearing will this require some type of puller? or am i missing something

sounds like the shaft is stuck in the clutch splines. They can take alot of pressure to get apart if they are all rusted up.

the cover and shaft come off together. taking that bearing nut off does nothing. like Scott says. MICE. I'd broken covers with a sledgehammer to get them apart. One you get the cover out of the way you can usually unbolt the pressure plate. Good luck.

If you take the little plate off the bottom of the cover, you can get to the splines with some PB Blaster. Get 3 flat chisels and space them equally around the cover. Pry them equally and gently. Be patient and it should come off.

A cap from a soda bottle will fit in the timing hole and keep the mice out.Female side out.I think you can even screw a bottle back in to it to easily pull it out when needed.I had to take the clutches apart on my F20 and Regular to clean mouse nest and assorted droppings out.Nasty, stinkin" job! Had to replace pilot bearing on the regular it was so rusted up.
