I am overhauling my 400 was wondering is there supposed to be a gasket between the oil pump and where it bolts on to the engine block?

I am overhauling my 400 was wondering is there supposed to be a gasket between the oil pump and where it bolts on to the engine block?

Not on the IH engines I have been in(H and 300). I think it would make the teeth on the pump and the teeth on the camshaft mesh incorrectly, and anyway the whole thing is inside the oil pan where everything is supposed to be oily all of the time.
