Is the live hydraulic pump the same on an H as an M?

No it won't fit two differant part numbers.

What kind of "live pump?"

If you are talking about IH pumps, then they are definitely different and not compatible.

There is also other types of live pumps that may or may not be compatible across both tractors. I think there is one that mounts in between the distributor and drive adapter that should work on both tractors.

Frankly I would not trust any used live pump. They are not on the tractor for a reason and that reason usually is that they're shot.

Nothing will interchange from H to M, original transmission drive hydraulic pumps or added IH live engine drive from newer 300/400 or Super H/M are different.
