Farmall questions

Can any oe tell me if the rear end and transmission off a Farmall M will fit on to the frame rails of a Farmall H. I plain to also use the engine from a Farmall 350. Can anyone please tell me if this will work. Thank you.

About anything can be done. For doing that nothing will bolt up though. H frame rails won"t match the M clutch housing holes. Also H used 5/8 bolts and the M 3/4 inch. If they did match the holes they would be wider apart than a H.

Ok so if i have a way to drill new holes in the hydralic part of the tractor in the middle and line up the hole would it be possible. I am a type of person who like to make things work when others do not believe they will. Any ones info on this is apreciated. Thank you

A new engine rear plate would be needed. (fabricated) the plate would need to be strong enough to carry load presented by the different engine bellhousing/torque tube connection. The frame rails would need to be remanufactured at the trans end to accommodate the bigger housing. The clutch shaft would need to be fabricated to be longer and fit the 350 sized clutch.
When done, you would be confronted with a tractor that would be worth less than either original tractor in operating condition. It would be heavy, and under powered to a degree. It would be compromised in tractor pulling due to weight, and lack of Cubic inches. Not a higher value coupling of components. Jim

The H's frame rails are 2" closer together than the M's.

The bolts will basically be "half a hole off." It's not as simple as just drilling a few holes because there's no meat there to drill into.

It would be much easier to take the M's frame rails and cut them just ahead of the bell housing, and step them in 1". Then the rails would match up to the M bell housing in back, and the H bolster in front.

You will still need a custom rear engine plate to mount the 350 engine up to the M bell housing.

Not practical. Even if you do it and get it to work you have one screwed up tractor. If you want to sell it later, anyone with any knowledge about IH will not want it.

Greg,I'm wondering, why do you want to do such a thing?Do you have am M with a bad motor?350 with a bad rear end?Would be cheaper and easier to just fix the M engine,or drop in a 'replacement'.When you were done with your convertion. You would just have a worthless 'frankentractor'that nobody else would want, underpowered at that.Next thing, how about the hood, steering, etc. Is the clutch pilot spline the same on both tractors? But,If you're up for the chalenge-GO fot it!Then be sure to post lots of pics-of the 'journey' and the completed project.Good luck!

It would also be cheaper and easier to buy ANY H and put the 350 motor in it.

Ok guy thank you for all the info. Does any one know where there is a 350 engine at reasonable priced. I need the one that has the frame rail mounts for my H. If any one can give me any ideas it would be appreciated. i believe i am going to just stick with every thing origonal and put a 350 in it. Thank you Greg

350 engines can be found in salvage and used parts yards. Several can be found. or a donor tractor can be purchased. Your location drives suggestions. Put a want ad in the classifieds to the left. Jim
