Brought the H home

Thought I would go and get the H out of storage and home so I can get two new to me rear tires on. Not too cold, around 50 with sun shine. Nice 12 mile ride. Now to see if I get lucky and get the bead broke, might have to make a visit to my local tire shop for some help on this one, but I'll give it a try first. Lucky, no fluid to worry about.

I helped my brother change tires on an H he bought once. It came from Dekalb Poultry and had been used for running a manure spreader. It had set for a long time at the plant when he bought it. Those tires were as stuck as they could get. Once we finally got the bead to break loose and the tires off we had to chisel and grind the rust ring off of the rims. By the time we got them changed we were exhausted.

That"s why I"m hoping I can get them off here in the garage. Then clean up the rims and paint them before putting the tires on. I"m sure the local guy would remove and let me clean and paint then have him instal if needed. Where in Central Il are you? I"m about 20 miles s of Kankakee,

Put a 4-6 foot 2 by 6/8/10/whatever up on the tire as close to the rim as you can get. Drive the family car/truck/tractor up on the board. If it catches on the rim, drive it back with a sledge. If it is still not broken, you will have nice spot to hit with the sledge and should break free. Same on the other side. Good luck. JD

Rear Wheel clamps. Is there a right or wrong way on these? Mine have one clamp inside that comes off, but then you have to fight to get the wheel & tire off. When I first purchased this tractor I had to fight to get the wheels off to paint them then fight them back on. Can they be reversed? Would make life a whole lot easier.

the clamps can be put on either way. One side is bolted solid and the other comes off with the nut. But I'd guess you'd be looking at new bolts to change them. I would not think it would be worth it.

Good thought, but you forgot to mention to look for knots in the 2 x. Had a good 2x8 in the truck in carry to level the camper, didn"t notice a bog knott about half way up, thats as far as I got before it broke, the 2x not the bead..LOL Live and learn.
