How did your 300 transmission turn out after you went back into it? I was especially interested in your post because I have a 1955 300, with TA and independent pto. Just wondering!

I was in and out of it a few times, never could get the gears to quiet down but I am waiting till spring to decide whether to try again. I am able to use the tractor now but don't really need to use it much till the snow finishes melting and the ground firms up so I can get out to the woods without making a mess. I did get another spare ring and pinion off ebay for $10 plus $26 shipping so if the noise i really getting to me I can try again. I have not had occasion to try it in 5th, but the noise is tolerable in the lower gears. I don't have to use 5th often. The 300 is a very nice tractor to use because of all of the handy features but it is a lot more work to work on than my old H was.

Are you using HYTRAN or regular gear oil? May wear in and quiet down some. I put hytran in mine when I changed all the gear oil last fall. I used it this winter to plow snow,I have a loader with hydraulic bucket, worked great.good luck on yours.

I have used hytran because I read on this forum that gear oil would not lube the TA adequately. I am hoping it may wear in, I guess time will tell.
