I was wondering if any body had an idea of how much fuel an 806 with an m&w turbo on it would burn compared to a 706 with a stock D282 in it. My main thing I need it for is a tractor run run an irigation well in the summer and just an extra tractor to have around just in case.

Dont really know the fuel consumtion, even though I own a 706 with a turbo 310.In fact,I was disking with it this morning. :) My advise is to buy the 806.Lots better engine(and longer lasting) than the junk underpowered 282...You probably will not notice the 'extra' fuel burned,if there is ,it would be negligible. You will enjoy the extra power as well.

dont have an exact figure but comparing to the 282 which is very economical on fuel , i will go out on a limb and say the 806 will burn at least 35- 40% more fuel per hr.

I don't know much about the power requirements of an irrigation pump...................but I bet if it wasn't a big load there wouldn't be much difference.

The turbo will make the 806 much more efficient.

If it is a nice steady load I would bet the d282 with a turbo will be very economical. I ran two 560's for a while and while they both sip diesel the turboed used a third of what the non diesel burned, and that was comparing them running a corn sheller and road time.

The amount of fuel consumed will be in direct proportion to the power necessary to drive the irrigation pump. Since both tractors are more than capable of doing the work, the fuel consumed will be the same on either tractor, or at least close enough for that to NOT be a deciding factor.

I would file a grant request with the government to find the answer. Tell them you are going to compare the two tractors to a windmill powered generator, coupled with a solar panel. The grant money will pay for the diesel for the two tractors for about 50 years, so who cares what they burn. ;0)

Bigger horses require a little more fuel but do the job a little easier.72 cubic inches would be offset some by efficiency of added turbo.I am assuming the 282 is non turboed.

Are you comparing a turbo to a NA? You said non diesel, but I think you meant non turbo. Nobody wants gas tractors.
