I recently replaced the 1-reverse sliding gear and the 2-3 sliding gear in my 1948 Farmall Cub. The 1st and reverse gears are now quiet but the 2nd & 3d gears are very noisy now where they weren't before. Any Suggestions? I think I'll put the old 2-3 gear sliding gear back in and try it. I would appreciate any advice.

Many times when you mix new gears with old gears you will have noise problems. The old gears will be worn, even if they look good.

i agree.. you may be hearing lash problems.

depending on the difference.. it may actually wear in.. eventually.

what oil are you running? thin or thick.. thicker oil makes for quieter gear noise..

You're never going to get rid of all the gear noise in a Cub. Spend hundreds of dollars and tear it apart over and over until you're blue in the face. You're just wasting your time.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I use 95-140 wt oil. The 3rd gear is really noise/kind of grinding. I don't want to use that gear. I will put the old 2-3 sliding gear back in and see what happens. Cubs trannies are a pain.
Thanks again.
