Farmall engine size

2 questions, what is the engine size for block number 366204 R1? Also I just got done rebuilding the governor and need to know how to tell if the bottom spring is adjusted too far. The old spring was broke off and when I installed the new one I did not back off the adjustment from where it was.

That spring is for engine surging and if its up too high it will afect the idle speed. Are you sure you got all of the old spring out. I would remove that screw and check there isnt any leftover part of the old spring.

What tractor -- Too lazy to look up the number, if the model is the same but with a early or later engine, and the max rpm is the same, the governors are set the same way.

366204R1 is a 123 ci although if you want to get technical 122 and some change.

I believe that the 366204R1 came from 130's and 230's. Maybe 100's and 200's too.

Engine size should be cast into the block near where you found the part number. Should say "C123."

You can't tell if the bottom spring is adjusted right until the engine is running. Make sure you've got the throttle linkage adjusted right, then if the engine is surging you can turn that screw in a little bit at a time until it stops. In your case you can probably turn it out some.

If you turn it in too far I think it affects throttle response. You want it set where the governor snaps the throttle open and doesn't "bounce."

I removed the housing and replaced it with one i rebuilt so i'm sure i removed all the spring. So i should back off the spring until it starts surging and then adjust it until the surging stops? Does the engine need to have a load on it for the adjustment? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks, this one is on a super a that i purchased and the head gasket is leaking antifreeze but not into the oil. When the s/n didn't match the super a block numbers i didn't know how to get the size so i could get the correct gastets. Thanks again.

Half throttle or so because at idle the gov lever inside would be close to that bumper spring and you dont need a load on the engine.

Gene, you're one of the last people on this forum I would disagree with, but I don't think the head gaskets are the same. I built a 366204 R1 for my Super A. Started it for the first time on Tuesday. I too have a slow antifreeze leak that is not mixing with the motor oil. My head and block had their surface milled to specs, so I am going to check to make sure my torque is 80 ftlbs on the head bolts and if that doesn't work put done copper seal on a new head gasket.

If the block number starts with a 35 its a SC/200. If the block starts with 36 its 130/230. The big difference was the head and manifold but also you have to bore the block to put the 3 1/4 over bore in the block starting with 36. The bottom of the sleve is smaller then the top.
