a new project!! 460D Farmall

I just bought a 460 Diesel today, it doesn't run, but seller says it did 3 weeks ago. It looks like it very well could have. He says its got fuel at the injector pump but not at the injectors. he is figuring worst case scenario at this point that the injector pump is shot. So I bought it from him at a decent price. I'm not just gonna jump to the injector pump being out but am prepared to put one on if needed. What are some other things that you would try prior to a pump replace/overhaul? The batteries are charging and I'm gonna be headed out to the shop later tonight to diagnose it a bit more.

Is there fuel in the tank, is sediment bowl clean, Are the fuel filters clean. Check that first then check the pump. I like cheap fixes when they work.

that d236 is just a smaller version of the d282 right? after changing fuel filters, i'd take a look at the fuel shut-off linkage in the pump. it's under the top cover- maybe it's just stuck in the off position.
