Hi I just got a 1947 farmall H(like 3 days ago). It runs good, although I do have work to do. There is no issues with water in the oil or oil in the water but the water pump is cracked for some reason. I figure this could have happened from someone trying to hammer away at it to remove it? I want to restore this tractor as original as possible so are there any aftermarket pumps that look identical to the original? Case IH no longer carries pumps for the H's. My other option is to get a used one, I have found a very rusty one on ebay that I suppose I could rebuild. Thanks

I have aftermarket pumps that look pretty close but I will check tomorrow to see if I can rebuild an original ih pump tomorrow if you are interested.

That would be great! I don't mind if the aftermarket pump is close. I was researching a little and found some people saying that some aftermarket water pumps are way different. I'd be interested in the prices of both a rebuilt original and an aftermarket one. I don't know what happened to me after getting this tractor. I have a Datsun 280Z that almost nothing is original on, it has a small block chevy v8. Now I get this tractor and I even want to get and original battery box for it:) Thank you.

I have unrebuilt used ones for $20 for the pump less the pulley unit and fan. They spin and did not leak when removed but they did not come off running engines so I can't be sure about them.

They are easy to rebuild. I got a second hand one from Zach because the original was damaged. Bought a kit for the pump and started work. I used the exploded diagram in the parts book and asked advice here to find the small pin in the pulley flange. Once you get the pump apart, reassembly with new innards is easy. Take your time, make sure everything is clean and you'll have no trouble. It took a couple of hours to dismantle the pump and reassemble it. You don't need many tools, just spanners to dismantle, and a punch to knock the pin and bearings out. I knocked the new bearings in with the old ones.

Sadfarmall, are you still looking for a water pump pulley or did you
get one? I have one now that is not cracked if you're still interested.
I meant to write a couple of weeks ago and check with you but I lost
track of it.

You can't see much of it with the hood on anyway. Get one of those good ones frm Zach, if it leaks kit it. If it doesn't, add anti freeze and go.

That's the way to go. I'd probably just rebuild the replacement one while it is out. You will find it a straightforward job and satisfying when you fit it and there are no leaks. Also works out cheaper than a new aftermarket model.
