I have a 56 farmall 300 rowcrop tractor. Serial #26520 CSJ, with a 12v. gen.,keyed switch, distibutor. Took starter to machine shop to fix, feller says whats this off, I tell him, He says he aint never seen that style of starter on a 300. Gets me to thinking made thats why it hasn't worked right since I've had it! (bout 3 yrs).Tag #1108635 6B3 with a 3 bolt nose housing. Looked in my data book (by Guy Fay), doesn't list a 300 with a 12v.,even in the special features,(as in special ordered). Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks Brian

My 350 starter is 1108038, both yours and mine are Delcos. Someone converted the tractor from 6 to 12 volts. I am not familiar with all the number and differences, your starter is likely still 6 volt which is fine. If you can see the color of the tag, on a Delco a black tag is 6V, 12V red. It also could have been converted to 12V, if so it wasn't necessaary. I believe the later models of the 350 and 450 had 12 volts, yours had 6V from the factory. 3 bolt nose is correct.

So they did not make a 300 with 12 volts from the factory. Been having trouble with it charging and starter engaging into starter ring.Teeth on starter drive messed up.I put a new starter ring gear and starter drive on 3 yrs ago, now I'm back to the same problem. Thanks for the info Brian

Any possible chance it is a 1108535??
My book does not list 1108635. Does not mean there is not an 1108635.

C after the serial number means the tractor was built as a LP fuel one. You didn't say or I missed it if it still is. Starter you have is the correct 12 volt for a 300 LP. Also those LP starters used a different flywheel starting gear than a gas, kero. or dist. fuel.

My 300 is 24068 SJ and is probably as well documented as any 300 out there. It is a propane burner and 12 volt from the factory.

Confused, D Slater says C after serial # means a lp, Unforgivens 300 is a lp but doesn't have the C, just SJ. Brian

They made 300 and 400 IH in 1956 with 12 volt system and a key switch. It had a odd brass colored key. In fact my FIL had a choice of 6 or 12 volt when he bought a new 400 in 1956. Only series that had that style key then Ih went to the same key for every tractor for years

Anything could happen, But if he doesn't have a C or a N after the tractor or at least the engine serial number. Its going to be hard to prove it came LP. Unless he can account for the complete tractor history.
Not saying he is wrong. Just that I wouldn't buy it as a genuine LP tractor without a letter C or N after the engine serial number or the tractor serial number. Because even if it came that way some would always doubt its original.
I can see IH maybe not stamping a early 300. Unforgivens is late enough to be a fluke if not stamped at least on the engine.
BJH does yours have a letter after the engine serial number? Is it LP now?

Put messicks in a search box. Click on messicks farm equipment or Case IH parts if that is showed under it first. If not after clicking messicks farm equipment find case ih parts and click. Should have a box come up for model number. Put in 300, then click on farmall 300 tractor. Then click on electrical. Then click number 100. Should be looking at the picture of your starter number. Lots of information not there that was in a parts book though. Site was slow when I was there.

A lot of tractors were converted to LP after they left the factory, especially down here, some were dealer installed ( using "factory" parts & options) most were converted by the local mechanics using locally available parts. I have seen some very "rough" installations, and not just Farmalls, owner swears they came that way.......you know....

Mine is fairly easy to prove, it was a NE Test tractor, number 573 or 574? If someone has the book they might check my serial number, I can't find the info I have for it right now.

Yes you are correct on the test serial. Be interesting to know why the tractor fuel ID wasn't on the tractor or engine. Also the story of the tractor after it left the test.

Interesting, looked for a bulliten on the start of 300 LP tractors. Not found yet, but some information points to the first built ones at or near the time of your serial number. Never noticed that the LP attachment didn't start with the first F-300 tractors before. Thanks for the information.
