F-20 magnito problem

Shut off the gas at the tank so it quits running. Your mag probably isn't being grounded is why it won't shutoff. Hal

take the advance cap off and clean in there really good. gonna need some Q-tips to get in the tight places. there is a little 'nub' on the side that touches the the side of the point plate to ground it out. not uncommon for it to be grimey from dust and oil

Drill a small hole on the backside of the mag cover and connect a wire from the condensor to a one-wire On/Off switch from a letter series Farmall. This workis just like On/Off on the letter series and looks "Farmall."

in addition to what Old-F20 said, take a look at the grounding tab that he refers to. I have had a couple of F-4 mags that over time that tab did not make good contact with the points. it can be carefully bent a little to make solid contact with the points when completely retarded on the timing. BE CAREFUL! that grounding tab can be broken off if you use too much force. Clean it first. If you still have the problem, inspect the clearance when the timing is fully retarded. If it is not making solid contact, bend it slightly to correct.

guys, don't forget, this is an F4 mag, not an H4. totally different beast. E4A, F4, H4, and J4 are all different, with the H4 and J4 being the most similar.

Each has it's own "personality", and definately different approaches for repair and trouble shooting.
