If you are doing it with 12 volts, and the tractor has a starter terminal that is accessible between the starter switch and the starter motor, just turn on the key and firmly touch the jumper to that conductor. (polarity doesn't even matter, as you are just spinning the starter and the starter motor always spins in the correct direction.)
This eliminates issues with exploding batteries because the tractor battery and system are not involved. Ground the other jumper near the starter motor. (this will not work with ""booster Cables"" they are too small to operate any starter motor and can only be used to charge a like voltage battery for 15 minutes with the other vehicle. Good jumpers will have #2 wire in them. Jim

| Jim, Only problem with that is that sparks are too close to the gas tank and sediment bowl for me. I would rather attach the positive first, then the ground somewhere else. Usually I revert to cranking, in spite of all the broken arms I have read about on this forum.
