F30 Serial suffic

Well, I bought another F30, this one a narrow tread with road gear. I has an suffix I am not familiar with HAN . I know the N is for narrow tread. What is the HA for?

Tom, HA I thought was for High Altitude. But I would think only stamped on engine and serial plate not on frame. oldiron29

Thanks. I can't find my book, otherwise I would have looked it up. I will also check the block stamping as well. This is the first tractor I have bought that I don't have much to do to it. My project list is so darn long, that I welcome one that just needs gas once in awhile!

High Altitude Pistons and Narrow Tread.

From what I understand, a more desirable combination from a collector stand point.

That is a nice tractor. Do you mind me asking what the weight limit is on that trailer? I had an "incident" recently with a rental and was just wondering. The ramps look HD but then the the ramps on my Big Tex 6K are like that too.

the one I have is stamped on the frame rail, so I would assume that was probably the norm. Probably hear from a few others on this so we'll see if theirs are or not.

Dave, the licensed GVW on it is 7000 lbs. I went through a black cat scale, and the trailer is 7240 as pictured. So, real close.

I have 2 F-30HAN's and have had a third one in the past, heres the skinny on them

HA does mean 'high altitude' as pointed out by a couple otheres. what this means is the tractor was either ordered or sent to a specific area where you need domed pistons to compensate for altitude. Two of my 3 came from Idaho, and the third from colorado. This is where i have found most of them.

The engine will be stamped with a serial number followed by the letters HA and either a 5 or an 8. this number tells you the 'altitude' for the pistons. 5 being 5000 feet and 8 being 8000 feet. bigger the number the bigger the dome on the piston

Every one i have seen have been stamped on the tag AND the framerail and a stamp on the engine block

IHC did NOT offer a different head for these critters, just domed pistons.

They made F-20HAN's as well but ive seen fewer of them than F-30's

hopefully i explained it good enough

Since the stamp " HAN" on both is of a slightly differing size that the rest, (little bigger) could this be a dealer installed item ??
If it was done on the assembly line wouldn't the stamp sizes match closer ?? Just curious, I know it's hard to tell after all these years, but the few F20's I have seen that were Narrow or Wide the letters stamped matched the numbers stamped much closer on the frame rail.

Ryan, rhtx55 brings up a good point on stamp size. Do all of your stamps on your f-30 That have the HAN do the stamp size all match or not.

Our F-20 N has the big N stamp size that matches the number size, my f-30 HA has smaller HA than the numbers, just like in the picture. frame rail

EVERY F-30HAN i have both owned and have seen are stamped with a smaller font and they have all been the same way.

My F-20 HAN is stamped in a smaller font.

On F-20's ive seen both large and samll fond for 'suffix' designation. everything stamped by hand

well, FWIW, I got this one in New Castle IN. from the photo adds here on the site. Not sure where the PO got it from. This is a good thread, lot's of info coming in. thanks to all so far for posting.

(quoted from post at 20:05:56 03/05/13) How easy is it to find a F-30 Narrow Banjo (rear
casting) ?

not very easy. narrow do pop up from time to time but typically only as a complete tractor
