Tractor pulls fine for a couple hours then you have to increase rpm and move lever more to move at same speed. Is it the pump or hydro? Oil and filter ok

Probably both, but pump is inside, pretty much integral to hydrostatic drive on those models. There are other possibilites so what I would do is cap off the two small outlets with 1/4 in steel lines coming off top of control plate on side of hydro. Use steel caps. This will eleminate all external valves to see if it still acts up. You will not have a foot n inch pedal though with those capped off so be careful. Speed ratio lever will be only control of hydrostatic drive speed or stopping. If it works the same capped off I would test servo pressures though before I tore into the hydro. If it works fine capped off then you start looking at the control capsules and foot n inch valve.

Pete would that work for my hydro 86 ? Mine works good but as you move the speed control handle ahead about one third of the way it will suddenly surge ahead and then there isnt much more movment past that if you push the handle to the end. Thanks Erik..

It is a place to start because you are then eleminating external problems, except in your case you want to be doubly sure the SR lever is fully moving the drive control spool when you move it side to side. There is an adjustment on that to get equal movement both ways. Some times just a loose quadrant will give you a no drive, stop drive or uneven speed control. I would check that part out first. Also, does it go normal in reverse. If it goes faster than normal the hydrostatic motor may be operating in the fast position all the time. The blue line on the quadrant is when the pump has reached it's maximum tilt for higher speed and from that point the motor starts to decrease it's tilt for more speed. A hydro is quite simple in theory, except about a thousand different things happen to them, mostly minor but sometimes hard to pin down.
