Farmall H value?

I have a 1942 H that was orginally purchased by my grandfather, it has never had an electric start, any lights, no belly pump, no rear pto. The only option it has was the belt pulley. It was orginally on steel wheels but the rears were cut off and rims welded on. I completely rebuilt the engine and painted the tractor about ten years ago and it has only been in a couple shows and drove around my yard. I"m thinking of selling because the last few years it is just sitting in my barn most of the time. I"m trying to get an idea of what it would be worth. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

Depends on how bad a person wants a lawn ornament, will determine how much its worth.
As you describe it will probably bring about $500.00 on a good day at the auction.

I say keep it it was your grandfathers.... I am tryin to find my grandfather's tractors.... once its gone you may never see it again!

For what its worth I would just keep it if it isnt in the way. At least its inside. If it were outside and your not going to do something with it then I'd say sell so it doesnt turn to junk

Max price $1500, worth at least $800-$1000. Some may like it because of the lack of options.

$500 on a good day if you are lucky. People can't do anything , but drag stuff around with it. I just bought a running H with a loader for $700. It was also repainted with good rubber. I will sell off a few parts and scrap it out.

Depending on condition and documentation it could bring some money as a collector piece because it is so basic. IF you decide to sell it. I also would check some other sources for info and opinions.

Priceless!

You can not put a price on your grandfather's tractor. Keep it in the family. If you do not want it, GIVE it to one of your cousins and tell tell as much of the tractor's history as you know.

Yep, keep it, inside. One of the grand-kids might wise up one day, one of the great-grand-kids might become aware of what it is.... keep it, and document as much as you know.

Sell your Grandpa's tractor? YIKES! I have been trying to buy my Grandpa's 1941H for 23 years!!!

I would keep it if at all possible. We still have my Grandpa's tractors, a 1941 Farmall A and a 1941 Farmall H

Keep it if you can. I have a super h that was my uncles and it was my first tractor that I ever ran. I thought of selling it a time or two and am glad now I never did. You can't put a price on memories.

Best choice is to keep it if you can. My grandfather's Farmall H has long since disappeared and bascially zero chance of ever seeing it again. Same for his F12. I've got his 1939 Farmall M and there is no way I'll be selling that. My Dad sold the 1955 AW-7 some years back and I was a upset because it was bought new for our farm. At least I know the chap who has it now.

The tires could be half the value of the tractor. Such a low option tractor has very limited practical uses, it might also be in better condition than most for the same reason. Your grandfather and father may have kept it because dealers would not offer much for it as a trade-in.

The tractor could have the most value to:
family members for sentimental reasons;
collectors for the unusually low options; and
tractor pullers because of the condition and light weight (yes, I know that would be a sin).

Would any other decendents of your grandfather including cousins, nephews, and nieces appreciate having their grandfather's tractor? Consider passing it on to one of them at a low price ($500 to $750?) before advertising it to the public at a higher price ($900 to $1400 depending on the tires). Bring new and old pictures of the tractor to your next family reunion to see if anyone is interested in it.

If I tried to keep everything my dad and grand father had, I couldn't do it.
The memories in my head of them don't require any maintenance whatsoever, that H will require money on a regular basis..

Yes, that may be true. But on the other hand the $800-900 that is brings you will barely do anything to change your life. That money would barely get you and your wife matching full color sleeves ( I really have no clue, I think tatoos are coming down in price)
