i just purchased a 400 diesel it was stuck but is free and running now but misses on diesel runs good on the gas side i swap injectors with the miss staying in #4 it doesnt have much if any blow by any ideas

First thing I would check is to see if the starting valve is stuck, bent or not sealing on that cylinder. See if there is compression at the spark plug hole when running on diesel.

how do i go about checking the starting valve soory i am new to the diesel game and know very little about the diesel

With the engine off, you can put a compression tester in the #4 spark plug hole. With the compression release lever in diesel mode, you should get a reading of zero if your starting valve is closing good.

The decompression valves are open when on gas. They close when switched to diesel. So, if you pull the spark plugs out, put decompression lever in diesel position, ground coil wire or unhook primary wire to coil so you don't stat a fire, hit the starter and no compression should come out of the spark plug holes. If it does, decompression valves are stuck or warped. You can get get at the top end of them valves with valve cover off. May be able to see a stuck valve through spark plug hole. Difficult though. If they are not stuck too bad you can go through hole and push them up. Then pull lever back to gas to open them, then again to diesel. Doing that several times may loosen them. Probably not though.

Thanks guys got it unstuck this afternoon hooked the tractor a packer and drug it around the soft lot. When it got good and warm the miss went away

If the miss goes away when warmed up and continues to do so you more than likely a hole burned down the side of a piston. If you start it cold tomorrow and it does not miss it was probably the starting valve finding it seat.
