row crop 300 transmission rear end oil capacity

If you buy 15 gallons you will have a little left over. Hytran or equiv. The amount is from memory. should be close.

I just changed my 300 row crop transmission and rear end last nov. 7 gallons of hytran. 3 drain plugs, I don't know if it's necessary but I was advised to fill the TA through the check plug on the left side of the tractor.

I didn't have to do that but what I have done is to push the front of the tractor out of the shed so it is maybe 8" lower than the rear and leave it there for a half hour or so and the TA housing got nice and full of oil.

I have just overhauled the trans in my 300 and replaced the TA. I drained 80-90 gear oil from it. I see some people on here are saying it should have Hy-tran in it. Can someone tell me what the manual calls for or if there is a new rule?
Thanks

Seven gal, hy-tran. The original book was printed long before HY-Tran was on the market. IH found out early that gear lube was too heavy to properly lubricate the TA over running clutch. (Ramp & rollers). They went to mixing 10 wt oil with a Torque amplifier additive until HY-tan was marketed with 560 series. The front test plug will fill from rear but takes a little longer to get up to level. The original idea of that front plug (explanation is hidden well in the operators manual) was to fill to that front plug level when the tractor was operated with front of tractor on an incline, working on a stationary pto or belt pulley job.

Absolutely use HyTran!!! When I first bought my 300, I changed all the fluids and did what the manual said. The overrunning clutch in the TA went out because I used 80-90. DON"T use anything but HyTran!!!!!!!
